The first episode in KSP Season 9 this time was delivered by Benyamin Limanto, S. SI. who is often called Mr. Ben. He is one of the youngest lecturers to teach at ISTTS. This year's KSP has the theme "Turning Open Source Project into Profitable Business". This webinar was opened with an introduction to Mr. Ben. Then he started his presentation on open source. Open source is a movement that allows the distribution and development of program code openly and can be repaired without any restrictions.

Next Mr. Ben explained briefly about the history of open source. Open source is not a new movement but has been around for a long time, especially in the academic world. Open source is also the backbone of nowadays corporation. Most open source is the standard or backbone of companies or software development companies today. Toyota, Google Microsoft, GM, IBM are already using open source to develop their business.

According to Mr. Ben, open source is always supported by the community so that it can always grow. The projected market has also grown almost 3x. The problem now is that most companies want to develop solutions quickly. But not all engineers can fill that gap so the solution is to use a pre build solution and deliver it quickly so using open source is very useful. There are also several open source business models, namely open-core, server, hosting, and marketplace.

We can also develop our own open source, even though it's a bit difficult. There is a pattern that is always the same in using open source to generate profit, namely "service". We can use an existing open source project and then provide services on it. The way to get started is plan, do, check, and act. The conclusion is that we can use open source projects to build services offered to our customers. If you want to contribute with an open source project, in Indonesia, several OSS projects are opened, including a profit.

Then at the end of the event, a question and answer session was held about open source. Many questions were given by the participants and were answered well by Pak Ben. The event then ended with taking a group photo and filling out the attendance and questionnaire given by the committee.
