KSP Season 15 Episode 4 was successfully held on Wednesday, 16 November 2022 with the theme "Knowing the Variety of Types and Forms of Children's Books". This material was delivered by Naafi Nur Rohma, S.Sn, M.Sn. who is a DKV lecturer at the Surabaya Institute of Science and Technology (ISTTS). Bu Naafi herself has been in the world of children's books for approximately 8 to 9 years. During her career, Bu Naafi has illustrated more than 70 children's books from various countries.
After briefly introducing herself, Mrs. Naafi began her material by asking a question, "Why do we have to know the types and forms of children's books?". Understanding the various types and forms of children's books will help in planning for whom to work on, not only in terms of content creation, but also format, illustration style, typography, and other factors related to the editing process.
Bu Naafi continued to explain about the genre of children's books, such as picture books, folklore & fairytales, fantasy, science fiction, realistic fiction, historical fiction, biography and autobiography, poetry & verse, and non-fiction. At the seminar this time, Mrs. Naafi also brought several examples of unique and interesting children's books. The books were loaned out in turn to the attendees.
The seminar continued by discussing the various types of children's books based on age segmentation. There are 7 categories divided from the age range 0 to 18 years. Why is it necessary to differentiate? The reason is because the abilities and needs of children are different at each age. For example, the category of children's books aged 0-4 years tends to have a strong combination of pictures and text because children are not yet able to read fluently. In addition, the book is also made of thick material so that it is not easily torn. At the end of the seminar, a question and answer session and filling in attendance were held. Then the seminar was closed with a group photo session.
