This KSP Special is a 2021 Holiday Program for High School Students, where high school students are invited to attend the KSP Special online via Zoom. The speakers presented were active students from various majors at ISTTS. KSP Special Episode 1 entitled “2D Platformer Game with No Programming Skills” will be held on June 28, 2021. The speaker is one of the students majoring in Informatics Engineering at ISTTS, namely Lawrence Patrick.
At the beginning of the event, PMB ISTTS showed a video and made a presentation about the ISTTS campus. Then proceed with self-introduction by the speakers Lawrence showed a preview of the games that will be co-created at this event. The game doesn't require great coding skills, but logic does. Game creation using the latest version of GDevelop 5. Lawrence has also prepared assets in the form of the necessary images, which are distributed in the form of a Google Drive link.
Lawrence teaches game creation material from scratch in GDevelop 5 starting from signing up or logging in to GDevelop 5, creating a new game, then explaining one by one the features that exist in GDevelop 5. After the feature explanation is complete, Lawrence provides material about the objects used in making the game. games. This time the object used is "Sprite". One object can be given several animations. Once the object creation is complete, we just need to drag and drop objects on the frame to use. There is a feature called behaviors and this time we will only use platformer behavior and platformer objects.
Condition or situation is one of the interesting features in GDevelop 5. This feature allows us to make object animations vary, such as when we press "D" on the keyboard, the object moves to the right, and so on. Various conditions were used in the making of this game, and various meanings of foreign terms were also taught by Lawrence. Projects can be exported as .exe or created applications, can also be exported as applications on Android, Windows, Linux, macOS, and others, with the condition that you must first log in to GDevelop 5.
The event then continued with a quiz game about the material that had been given by Lawrence. Quiz winners also get prizes provided by the KSP committee. Lawrence informed the participants that a Game Development competition was being held by HIMA Informatics and urged the participants to take part.
