Lingga opened the material session by explaining about the meaning of branding and visual identity. With branding and visual identity we can direct, so that our brand has a certain image/impression in the eyes of people. This material is relevant to the emergence of many start-ups today, so it is suitable for those who want to start an online business during this pandemic. The speaker also has a business, namely, Kopi Kabar Baik. Lingga shared some of his processes and experiences when building a visual identity for the Kopi Kabar Baik brand, and shared various inputs about branding and visual identity. Lingga emphasized how unique visuals and packaging can greatly influence people's decisions to buy a product.
Lingga explained the process of creating illustrations for the visual identity of a brand, starting with determining what products we would brand. After that, we create a moodboard, where we look for references, collect ideas, determine colors, and keywords that we want to use to characterize our brand. In the moodboard process, we can also use the Pinterest application to find ideas. Moodboard is needed to create vibe and ambience, so that our designs have a clear character.
From the ideas and references that we have collected from the moodboard, the next process is to create a logo. In this webinar, participants are invited to practice together to create a milk coffee product logo with illustrations using Adobe Illustrator. From a variety of existing illustration styles, we can choose an illustration style that suits the brand image we want. Illustrations can increase the value of a brand. Lingga also explains tips and knowledge about Adobe Illustrator, so that participants who are still not familiar with Adobe Illustrator, can also follow it easily.
The next step is to make a mock up of the label on the product. The participants were invited to practice together applying their label designs using mock up files with Adobe Photoshop. The purpose of using this mock up is to see if our design is in accordance with the packaging, before it is physically realized. The results of logos and mock ups can be applied in various media, such as Instagram feeds, packaging, and notes, but it is still important to maintain a unified design and maintain the characteristic elements in the brand.
In this webinar, participants can gain interesting knowledge about branding and how to use illustrations to add value to branding. At the end of the material session, Lingga also invited participants who wanted to show their design results to be given feedback. After the material session was over, the participants were given the opportunity to ask questions to the speaker. The webinar was closed with a photo session and filling out the Google attendance form.
